THE INSTALLATION

Cold storage in a shared space.

A London-based catering team needed a 3.6 m freezer with racking and strip curtains. This was the first of four cold rooms in the area, which would later stand side by side. Planning the first position therefore meant thinking about the wider layout as well as the immediate installation.

Respecting the neighbours.

The installation took place in a residential area. The team worked as quietly as possible and remained mindful of nearby residents throughout the build. Being considerate of the surroundings was part of the job from the outset.

Keeping drainage and access clear.

Positioning along this car park needed particular care because the drainage had to remain open. The room footprint was checked against the drainage route, with attention to how the later rooms would fit alongside it.

Power cables also needed to be secured out of the way to avoid creating trip hazards. The room position and cable route were considered together so that the surrounding area could remain usable.

A good base with a little local support.

The concrete provided a generally good base. A small amount of packing was needed beneath some floor sections where the surface dipped, helping to keep the room level and supported without extensive levelling work.

Adapting between frozen and chilled storage.

During the hire, the client sometimes wanted to use the room as a fridge rather than a freezer. For the equipment supplied on this project, our team was able to make the change by adjusting the refrigeration unit settings when requested.

If your storage needs change during a hire, speak to us first. We can confirm whether the supplied equipment is suitable and arrange the appropriate adjustments.

Bright skies, strong winds.

The sunshine in the photographs does not tell the whole story: the team was also dealing with strong winds. Those conditions called for extra care during the build, particularly with people and buildings close by.

Our approach is to pause a build whenever conditions feel unsafe for the team or anyone nearby. A sunny day is not a reason to overlook the wind.

What to consider for a similar site.

Tell us about nearby residents, drainage channels, cable routes and any plans to add more rooms later. These details help us plan a practical layout before the first components are unloaded.
