THE INSTALLATION

Planning around the space and the people.

VCS installed two 3.6 m coldrooms, both complete with racking, at The Honourable Society ahead of an event taking place the following weekend. It was a busy day on site, with several other contractors working on the event setup at the same time.

Working alongside other contractors.

The coldroom installation had to fit into an active build area. With other teams preparing the venue, the work needed to be coordinated around the people and activity already on site.

Carrying the components to the installation point.

Vehicle access stopped short of the final coldroom position. The team carried the components from the unloading point to the correct location and assembled the rooms there. For a modular installation, the route between the vehicle and the room is an important part of planning the job.

Keeping warm air outside the marquee.

The client did not want the refrigeration motors blowing warm air into the marquee. Openings were made in the marquee wall so the motors could discharge their warm air outside. This allowed the rooms to serve the event from inside while directing the rejected heat away from the marquee interior.

This arrangement was specific to the site. For a similar installation, discuss the position of the motors and any proposed marquee openings with the coldroom team and marquee supplier before the build.

A level floor and racking throughout.

The existing floor was flat, so no packing or levelling was required. Both rooms were fitted with racking to organise stock and make use of the available storage space.

Planning a similar event?

Confirm how close the delivery vehicle can get, the route components will take and which other contractors will be working nearby. Inside a marquee, plan where the motors will release warm air as well as where the coldrooms themselves will stand.
